Measuring Guide

Our production team handles 99% of the measurements we need to create your tailored caravan or motorhome cover.

But if you have additional attachments or non-standard roof furniture, we might need you to provide a few minor measurements to ensure your cover fits perfectly. Though the dims we’ll need are relatively basic, we understand that this can be pretty daunting.

So, here’s our handy measuring guide to walk you through the process.

The sooner we get your dimensions in our system, the more quickly we can get your cover onto the cutting table.

Before You Start Measuring

Though all our covers are custom-made for specific vehicles, we can’t possibly create a dims sheet for each caravan or motorhome. Our measurement sheets depict a graphical representation of your vehicle and, as such, might look a little different from your home away from home. But that’s ok; we’re only after the measurement. The process of measuring your vehicle is the same for caravans and motorhomes. When we ask for a measurement that needs to be taken from the back of your vehicle, your measurement must be taken from the furthest point.

Solar Panel Dimensions

If you choose to have a solar panel insert with your cover, we’ll need a couple of measurements to ensure the window is in the correct position. Even factory-fit solar panels are manually installed, and those dimensions can differ from van to van. The four measurements we’ll need from you are:

  • Distance From Rear of the Vehicle to the Solar Panel (remember to measure for the furthest point of the rear)
  • Distance From Closest Side to Solar Panel (mark nearside or offside)
  • Solar Panel Width
  • Solar Panel Length

Repeat the process from the other side if you have more than one solar panel you’d like a window for.

Access Flap Dimensions

If you have any features that you’d like to access with your cover on, we can include an access flap into your cover. The four measurements we’ll need from you are:

  • Distance From Rear of the Vehicle to the Access Point (remember to measure for the furthest point of the rear)
  • Distance From the Bottom of the Bodywork to the Bottom of the Access Point
  • Access Point Width
  • Access Point Height

If you need an access point at the rear, our Easy-Fit System will naturally allow you to access the back without taking the cover off.

Satellite Dish Dimensions

If you have a satellite dish installed on the roof, we’ll need to add an allowance of fabric to ensure your cover fits perfectly and won’t be too tight. The five measurements we’ll need from you are:

  • Distance From Rear of the Vehicle to the satellite dish (remember to measure for the furthest point of the rear)
  • Distance From Closest Side to Sat Dish (mark nearside or offside)
  • Satellite Dish Width
  • Satellite Dish Height
  • Satellite Dish Length

TV Aerials are different from Sat Dishes, and we rarely (if ever) require any measurements for TV Aeriels other than their position (front, middle, or rear), which we request on our ordering page anyway.

Air Con Unit Dimensions

If you have an air conditioning unit installed on the roof of your caravan or motorhome, we’ll need to add an allowance of fabric to ensure your cover fits perfectly and won’t be too tight. The five measurements we’ll need from you are:

  • Distance From Rear of the Vehicle to the Air Con Unit (remember to measure for the furthest point of the rear)
  • Distance From Closest Side to Air Con Unit (mark nearside or offside)
  • Air Con Unit Width
  • Air Con Unit Height
  • Air Con Unit Length

Bike Rack Dimensions

Bike racks attached to the back of caravans and motorhomes require additional fabric added to the cover to ensure the Easy-Fit System functions properly. The five measurements we’ll need from you are:

  • The Height of the Bike Rack
  • The Depth of the Bike Rack
  • Bottom of the Bike Rack to the Bottom of the Vehicle’s Bodywork
  • Width of the Vehicle (Going Behind the Bike Rack)
  • Width of the Vehicle (Going Over the Bike Rack)

We don’t need the width of the bike rack as the requested measurements provide all the details we’ll need to add the required allowances.

Awning Dimensions

Awning attachments require tiny adjustments to the pattern, but it’s critical we add extra fabric to ensure the cover fits properly. The measurements we’ll need from you are:

  • Distance From Rear of the Vehicle to the Awning (remember to measure for the furthest point of the rear)
  • Length of the Awning

If your awning sits above the line of your vehicle’s roof, we’ll need you to provide the height of the awning too.

Door Hinge Dimensions

We’ll have a pattern in place with door access already measured for most vehicles. But occasionally, we’ll need to pinpoint the position of the door (usually in the case of extremely new or very old vehicles). The measurements we’ll need from you to incorporate door access are:

  • Distance From the Centre of the A-Frame/Front Bumper to the Door Hinge
  • Distance from the Centre of the Vehicle’s Rear to the Door Hinge

Tip: Use your vehicle’s registration plate (assuming it’s positioned centrally) and find the centre of the rear of the vehicle. You can use the front registration plate for motorhomes, too.

Vehicle Length Dimensions

We require the length of a motorhome for every motorhome cover. It’s a single measurement that you’ll need a long fabric tape measure to take. The measurement we’ll need is:

  • From the Centre of the Front Bumper to the Rear Side of the Motorhome

Tip: Use your vehicle’s registration plate (assuming it’s centrally positioned) and find the centre from which to measure.

It’s exceedingly rare that we’ll request you to measure the length of your caravan, but the dims sheet is here just in case. You’ll start measuring from the centre of the A-Frame.
